Rotterdam Rooftop Days

No Rooftop Walks on June 5 & 6, but other activities to come

Unfortunately, our programme of Rooftop Walks will not take place on June 5 and 6 2021. In our search for new space in the city, we wanted to offer you rooftop wlks in duos this year. These secluded outdoor spaces seemed to be ideal for an individual and safe experience, fitting to the time we live in currently. Unfortunately, it turned out that it is too early for rooftop walks. We will not going to give up though en we will tranform our initiative programme into a series of small scale rooftop-activities that will take place from half June until the end of July of this year!

Rooftop Catalogue book launch, together with MVRDV and Gemeente Rotterdam

On Thursday June 3, together with MVRDV and Municipality of Rotterdam, we launched our Rooftop Catalogue! In Rotterdam alone, there are over 18.5 square kilometers of unused flat rooftops. The initiators of the catalogue believe that this should be addressed and therefore, MVRDV wrote this book. It is commissioned by the Municipality of Rotterdam and published by Rotterdamse Dakenkdagen. This Rooftop Catalogue aims to inspire people, not only in Rotterdam, but all over the world. Curious what the book has to offer?

International Knowledge Day: towards a sustainable and layered city

On Friday 4 June, our annual Knowledge Day took place – a three-part in-depth programme (in English) for professionals and other rooftop enthusiasts. The Knowledge Day had a strong international focus and consisted of the Rooftop Farmers’ Meet-up (in cooperation with DakAkker), interactive lunch workshops and the TOP^ summit about the sustainable layered city (in cooperation with Architecture Institute Rotterdam). The full Knowledge Day programme took place online.

Watch our Rooftopics: interviews with rooftop experts

Research on the use of rooftops is, due to the COVID-crisis, more relevant than ever. For this reason we started our online  interview series Rooftopics. Léon van Geest, director of the Dakendagen, visits rooftop experts and initiators on ‘their’ rooftops and talks with them about development of these remarkable projects and their visions for the future. The first interviews (about Depot Boijmans van Beuningen, the DakAkker and Erasmus MC and others) are now online.
