Rotterdamse Dakendagen return in 2021, 3-6 June!
Rotterdamse Dakendagen (Rotterdam Rooftop Days) wants to stimulate using rooftops to their full potential. We want to show how rooftops can contribute to a healthy, lively, attractive and future-proof city. We view Rotterdam’s inner city as an open laboratory where we show inspiring examples of this during our festival weekend.
After a virtual edition in 2020, Rotterdamse Dakendagen will return with a full-fledged festival weekend in 2021, and the preparations are in full swing! Rotterdamse Dakendagen will be organised, completely Corona-proof, from 3 until 6 June. The festival is also part of the programme of Rotterdam Architectuur Maand (20 May – 20 June) within which we will organise several projects.

Watch Conny Janssen Danst solos high on Rotterdam Rooftops
Due to the COVID crisis, the dancers of the Conny Janssen Danst Collective could not rehearse or perform in front of an audience this spring. To still make it possible for them to perform, we offered the dancers the best stage we have: the rooftops. Soloists turned their experience into a personal monument based on the strange context they live in these days. This resulted in three magnificant and very diverse registrations on three iconic locations in Rotterdam: Monuments in Solitude.
Watch our Rooftopics: interviews with rooftop experts
Research on the use of rooftops is, due to the COVID-crisis, more relevant than ever. For this reason we started our online interview series Rooftopics. Léon van Geest, director of the Dakendagen, visits rooftop experts and initiators on ‘their’ rooftops and talks with them about development of these remarkable projects and their visions for the future. The first interviews (about Depot Boijmans van Beuningen, the DakAkker and Erasmus MC and others) are now online.
Want to look back on our rooftop adventures in 2020? You can still find the entire virtual Rooftoppings programme on our website. Below some highlights of this summer.
