10 x Rotterdamse Dakendagen for non-Dutch speakers

Not fluent in Dutch? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Even though many of our tours and events are based on the Dutch language, there are many experiences to be had where language does not matter. Our Open Rooftops (which you can visit with a Dakpas) for instance, feature spectacular views that are beautiful in any language.

Check out our Open Rooftops

In addition, we offer English spoken tours and LNP (Language No Problem) Specials. We’ve highlighted them below!

1. Rotterdam Cityscape

This guided walking tour through the city centre will make you feel as though you’ve lived here all your life. First, we will visit the residential building in the Doelstraat, featuring a surprisingly idyllic courtyard garden. Next up is the Holbeinhuis, where you can experience Rotterdam’s post-war reconstruction from above. Finally, it’s time for NRC. This building, which used to house one of the Netherlands’ more prominent newspapers, now features a popular bar on the vibrant Witte de Withstraat.

Saturday 1 & Sunday 2 June | 11:00 – 13:00

2. High-Rise Highlights I & II

When joining a High-Rise Highlights bicycle tour, you get to visit two of the highest rooftops of our festival. Because you go up in a small group, there is ample time and room to enjoy the view and take as many pictures as you want. This tour has no guide, but you are greeted and assisted at both locations.

Saturday 1 & Sunday 2 June | 11:00 – 17:00

Information and tickets for High-Rise Highlights I: WTC & WPC can be found here.
For High-Rise Highlights II: WPC & Delftse Poort, go here.

3. Pleinbios Presents: Taxi Driver

The Pleinbioscoop Rotterdam (Rotterdam outdoor cinema) – known for its summer night films in Museumpark – shows film on many adventurous locations. During Rotterdamse Dakendagen we linked the roof of the Q-Park Bijenkorf parking garage to the ice cold classic Taxi Driver. Surrounded by high-rises, it’s not too hard to imagine yourself in the NYC of the 1970s as Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro) slowly sinks into his own madness on the screen. Get comfortable underneath a blanket, with the city lights around you and the soft echo of the traffic in the background.

Saturday 1 June | 22:30 – 00:20

4. WTC Rooftops

When we think of World Trade Center Rotterdam, we think of the immensely tall, green, reflective building in the heart of the city. But this complex of buildings actually has multiple rooftops to offer, and has a long history. During this tour, the security team (who know all the ins and outs) will bring you to three different rooftops.

Saturday 1 & Sunday 2 June | 15:00 – 16:30

Please keep in mind that the language of the tour differs per timeslot.

5. Under The Surface – North Sea Round Town

North Sea Round Town – the NN North Sea Jazz fringe festival – (27 June – 14 July) is warming up with a special sound concert by Under the Surface on the rooftop of the Q-Park Bijenkorf parking garage. All members of the audience are blindfolded to experience the live concert as ‘like-minded people’, surrounded only by the virtuoso sounds of Under the Surface and the sounds of the city below.

6. Rotterdam From Above

A guided walking tour, which will let you experience the reconstructed city from above! We will visit the residential building in the Doelstraat and the nearby Holbeinhuis, across the street from Rotterdam’s City Hall. This office building has a blind side wall, where you can admire a mosaic made by Louis van Roode, depicting two cities connected by the Rhine. Finally, we will climb to the roof of the parking garage along the Beurstraverse to watch the vibrant ‘Koopgoot’ (Shopping Gutter) from above.

Together with city carillonneur Richard de Waardt, the Saturners music theatre trio developed a unique location performance for the Laurenskerk, about the tragic myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. The audience will climb the tower together with the musicians, as the bells in the tower guide you. On the way up, you will be surrounded by music and dance.

10. Tall Tales above the Lijnbaan

The ‘Square One’ performance by the Rotterdam group Tall Tales is a living work of art! The actors make full use of their location: the audience travels together from the entrance hall to the roof where they play with height, and the ball pit (specially set up for the Rotterdamse Dakendagen) is used as an alternative to regular – boring – seating.
