Address: Coolsingel 104
Free admission for a drink or bite on Friday evening 31 May (even without a ‘Dakpas’ (Rooftop Pass))
Office building HBU (named after the Hollandse Bank Unie, one of the building’s first tenants) was built just before the war: it was finished in 1940. And miraculously, a few months later, it survived the bombing of Rotterdam – one of the very few buildings in the city to do so. Willem Dudok designed the building, just like the Bijenkorf shopping centre nearby.
On the ground floor of the building, you will find the restaurant La Buvette. But visitors were always meant to be able to have dinner at the very top of the building, and – if the weather’s nice – on the rooftop. During the Rotterdamse Dakendagen (Rotterdam Rooftop Days), you can enjoy a drink and a bite on the rooftop – just as Dudok intended. Thanks to La Buvette!
Look out over the first renovated part of the Coolsingel and enjoy the silence that, due to the major renovation, suddenly descends on this normally extremely lively arterial road.
