A new addition to the Rotterdamse Dakendagen (Rotterdam Rooftop Days)!

At Heilige Boontjes (Holy Beans), you can drink delicious, home-brewed coffee. Normally only indoors or on the terrace, but during the Rotterdamse Dakendagen, you may bring your coffee with you to the rooftop! You can also take a guided tour every hour (free with a ‘Dakpas’ (Rooftop Pass)) with former criminal Rodney, who will tell you all about the illustrious past of this building: a former police station. In the old exercise yard, there is a photo exhibition made by ‘Boontjes’ (Beans) – which is what the employees are called.

The irony is clear: a work experience place for former criminals in a building where, in the past, they might have been imprisoned. Heilige Boontjes is now a proven concept: for years, they have offered ex-convicts a place to self-develop and (re)integrate into society. And they do so successfully.

On Saturday and Sunday (on the hour at 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00), ex-convict Rodney takes a group to walk through the building and visit, among other things, the cells on the top floor where new prisoners used to spend the night. During the tour, he also reveals his own criminal past…

You cannot make a reservation for the tour, so report on site in time to join.
