The Hofpoort is the 95-meter-high former Shell office building on Hofplein. Built between 1973 and 1976, the Hofpoort was designed by architect Piet Zanstra (ZZDP Architects) and was then known as Shell Building II; Hofplein 19 was then known as Shell Building I. In 2015-2016, the building was completely renovated and renamed Hofpoort, after one of the ten city gates in 16th-century Rotterdam. The view from the Hofpoort's roof is phenomenal: all of Rotterdam city center is at your feet, and in good weather, you can see across the roof to The Hague and even beyond!
