Icon of Rem Koolhaas with a special bee artwork in construction. Including live explanation from the creator!
The Kunsthal is a turning point in Rem Koolhaas’s oeuvre and a textbook example of a roof being ‘the fifth façade’. From this rooftop, you will have a beautiful view over Museumpark, Westzeedijk and another Rem Koolhaas icon: De Rotterdam.
There have been beehives on the roof of the Kunsthal since 2014, but this year there is something very special. In the spring of 2019, 40,000 honey bees will be building Tomáš Libertíny’s work of art called Eternity. The work of art – the contours of which are built from beeswax layer by layer – shows the continuous life cycle of the honey bee and is a metaphor for a synergetic collaboration with nature. The final result will be a bust of Nefertiti.
Tomáš Libertíny will be present to tell you about his work of art.
Note that you can use your ‘Dakpas’ (Rooftop Pass) to visit the Kunsthal rooftop. If you also want to visit the exhibition spaces, you will need to purchase a separate admission ticket for the Kunsthal.
