Call: an ode to the Schiekadeblok

Has the Schiekadeblok (the 12 buildings surrounding the Delftsehof) meant something to your creative career? Then submit your name for an ode to the block!

During the Rotterdam Roof Days 2026, visitors take a walk across the 12 rooftops of the Schiekadeblok, named Walk The BlockThis block is one of the last raw edges of the city center and an important place for the creative and cultural sectors in Rotterdam. The block is also on the eve of a major development involving many (commercial) interests, which puts its cultural value under pressure. To demonstrate how important this place (and places like this) are to the creative heart of the city, we want to pay tribute to the block. We are doing this with a mural in the stairwell of the building where Perron was located until recently.

What do we do?

All visitors to Walk The Block will exit the rooftop route between May 30 and June 7 via the stairwell of Delftseplein 36 (the office building where Perron was also located until recently). After the Dakendagen, this building will be handed over to the demolition contractor by the municipality. The Dakendagen is therefore the last chance to visit this building.

In the stairwell, in collaboration with ALL CAPS, we want to pay tribute to the creative value this block represents for the city. We aim to do this by painting the names on the stairwell walls of as many organizations, artists, designers, programmers, architects, DJs, club promoters, etc., as possible, for whom the Schiekadeblok has meant something over the past 18 years.

All visitors to Walk The Block, including thousands of Rotterdammers and the new city council, will leave the building past this list of names and can thereby see the importance of places like this for the city. When the building is demolished, the list of names will disappear with it. So you do not stand on a wall forever, but make a one-time statement.

How can you participate?

We are looking for as many names as possible of organizations and individuals from the creative and cultural sectors. These will be painted in the stairwell starting May 18.

By filling out the form at the bottom of this page, you can submit names. Anyone with a creative career is eligible: artists, designers, architects, programmers, festival producers, cultural institution staff, dancers, writers, club promoters, DJs, chefs, etc.

Did you take classes at the old Hiphophuis location, work at the Popunie, rent a space in the Schieblock, perform at Roodkapje, or DJ at Perron? Did you work in one of the affordable, creative office spaces in the area? Do you want to show how important these kinds of places are for the city? Then we are looking for your name!

Submit your names: deadline May 17

Fill out the form below to submit names. Only submit personal names with permission. Do this no later than May 17. You may also fill out the form multiple times. Duplicates are not a problem; we will filter them out.

Please note: we are not looking for everyone who has ever had a beer in a Biergarten, but if you would never have become an artist without the inspiration from fantastic evenings at Annabel or BAR or POING or …? Then be sure to add your name.

For your information: The Schiekadeblok consists of the 12 buildings surrounding the Delftse Blok, i.e. the Schieblock (Schiekade 189), the buildings on Delftsestraat and on Delftseplein (from the former Roodjapje to the former Perron).
