Octopus exit: sliding out of the museum

For the manifestation Rotterdam City of Culture (at OMI, Office for Metropolitan Information), students from the Willem de Kooning Academy designed a spectacular expansion for the Maritime Museum in late 2024. The design is inspired by an octopus, symbolizing the mysterious life of the maritime world. The large-scale installation is an interactive and playful addition to the museum experience. Visitors move through the octopus's tentacles, from the museum roof to another floor, the café, or the Leuvehaven harbor. The "dome" is semi-transparent, providing a panoramic view.
