In 1970, the C70 event took place, including a 2 km cable car through the city center. This is part of a Rotterdam tradition of iconic events at height, such as the construction of the Euromast for the Floriade and De Trap during 'Rotterdam viert de stad' in 2016. The Rooftop Walk was originally intended as part of the Eurovision Song Contest celebrations. Corona thwarted those plans, but in 2022 the project was able to proceed thanks to support from the Municipality of Rotterdam and many others.
