Adding homes and greenery to existing buildings means finding answers to many questions. These include questions about the building's construction and load-bearing capacity, suitable plant species, and the business case for a rooftop village. The research into a pilot rooftop village by Roof Villages Foundation has been underway for a year and a half. A permit application has now been submitted to the municipality, and the realization of the first rooftop village is on the horizon: De Kroon building in Rotterdam West.
