Enjoy a series of film nights (Thursday, June 4 to Sunday, June 7) under the stars on the roof of the Mobypark Delftsestraat parking garage. In collaboration with four well-known Rotterdam film organizations: Roffa Mon Amour, International Film Festival Rotterdam, LantarenVenster, and Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam, we are organizing film screenings with the Rotterdam skyline as a backdrop.
On Friday, June 5, in collaboration with IFFR, we are screening the classic absurd science fiction comedy. Repo Man (1984) with a short film 'Gedoetjes' (2026) by Rotterdam maker Chris de Krijger.
About Repo Man
Alex Cox (United States, 1984, 92 min.)
When punk Otto (Emilio Estevez) loses his job in a supermarket, he becomes the assistant to morose 'repo man' Bud (a magnificent role for Harry Dean Stanton). Otto takes possession of a beautiful, extremely mysterious Chevrolet Malibu '64, formerly owned by atomic physicist J. Frank Parnell. An exceptional car that is being hotly pursued by remorseless officials, UFO fans and gangsters. But none of them are at all prepared for what's in the trunk.
Alex Cox's absurd feature debut almost didn't make it into American cinemas, until hordes of punk fans discovered the unparalleled soundtrack, featuring the likes of Black Flag, The Circle Jerks and Iggy Pop. Repo Man became an instant cult hit and regular feature on lists of the best films of the XNUMXs. Cameraman Robby Müller transforms industrial Los Angeles into a grim but magical place, comparable to the gorgeous car scenes he shot for Wim Wenders' Der amerikanische Freund (XNUMX). Repo Man became an instant cult hit and invariably appears on lists of the best eighties films. Cinematographer Robby Müller transformed industrial Los Angeles into a gritty yet magical place, comparable to the visually stunning car scenes he shot for Wim Wenders' Der amerikanische Freund (1977)
About Gedoetjes
(Chris de Krijger, 2026, 10 min.)
Comedies love riffing on human shortcomings, and Chris de Krijger’s new short is no exception. Wide-angled shots of Rotterdam in summer present the bumbling Homo sapiens in all its splendour: a jogger who decides to rent a moped for the final leg of his run; a marriage proposal that goes horribly wrong; and a woman who counts her steps but abandons her husband during a walk. From a bird’s-eye view, we witness the insignificance – and ridiculousness – of the flawed Homo sapiens.
From 20:30 you are welcome on the rooftop for a drink with a view of Rotterdam's Central District. 21:30 the film begins.
Repo Man is English spoken (no subtitles), Gedoetjes is spoken in Dutch with English subtitles.
Note
This program takes place outdoors and is not covered. The program will proceed in the rain; you are welcome to bring an umbrella or raincoat. The screening will only be cancelled in the event of dangerous weather, in which case all ticket buyers will be notified via email.
About the location
You might know this parking garage from the Red BMW by artist collective Kunst & Vaarwerk, which juts out majestically from the roof. Built between tall, mirrored buildings and reconstruction architecture, this is one of the rawest spots in Rotterdam. The perfect location for a film program that engages in a dialogue with its surroundings.
