Together with O. Festival for Opera. Music. Theatre., we are organizing musical rooftop encounters at various locations. On Sunday, June 1, there will be a mini-rooftop-concert on the 15th floor of The Rotterdam Building, featuring singer Flip Noorman.
About Flip Noorman
Flip Noorman (1988) is a Dutch singer known for creating his own songs and theatrical concerts, often accompanied by his regular band De Noormannen. His style is eclectic, marked by a fascination with the darker sides of life and society. With his deep, gritty baritone voice, he has been called the “rawest voice in the Netherlands.” Noorman’s lyrics range from biting and humorous to activist and skewed romanticism, where imagination often triumphs over literal interpretation.
In 2014, Flip won the Wim Sonneveld Award for his debut show Bellse Parese. He has been nominated four times for the Annie M.G. Schmidt Prize (2016, 2020, 2022, 2024), winning once in 2022 for Ze weten wie je bent. His show LOVE IT was nominated for the Poelifinario Award in 2023.
Last season, Noorman toured theaters with his programme Animal Farm, which will return for an encore in September. In addition to his own original work, Noorman has also created two shows based on the work of others: a sold-out tour interpreting the work of Leonard Cohen, partly translated by Noorman himself (including a performance in a sold-out Concertgebouw), and a tour featuring the work of Tom Waits, which he fully translated—with Waits’ personal blessing.
