On Friday June 6 2025, we will organize another edition of our international knowledge program Rethink Rooftops during the Rotterdam Rooftop Days festival. A full day of keynote speeches and networking opportunities for anyone who is professionally interested in utilizing and developing urban rooftop space. Tickets are available now.
How do we bring 'topping up' rooftops to a next level as a solution for the housing shortage? How does new legislation affect the use of solar on rooftops? What are great inspirational, international examples of rooftop use? How can neighborhoods participate in rooftop development, such as the different highlights on former railway lines around the world? How can innovative design aid in creating multi-functional rooftops? Can rooftops fill the gaps in urban biodiversity corridors?
These are just some of the topics we will address during the full day program. Speakers are ao Mattijs van Ruijven (Head of Urban Planning, city of Rotterdam), Francesco Veenstra (Chief Government Architect of the Netherlands), Yvonne Rijpers (Topping-up director, municipality of Rotterdam), Schirin Taraz (COO or WOHA architects, Singapore), Heather Brooks (environment policy and project advisor, Eurocities) Eytan Levi (Roofscapes, Paris) and many more.
In the morning we will kick-off with a plenary part with keynote speeches. After a network lunch we will continue with focus sessions on Topping Up, biodiversity, solar, water, participation and more. The day will end with networking drinks.
