Hogeschool Rotterdam

You can’t see it from the street, but they are there: green roofs with solar panels at the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences! On the edge of Museumpark stands this monumental building that was designed by architect H.F. Mertens in the 1930s as the head office of Unilever.

Now it is one of the main locations of Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences and is full of sustainable ambitions. The green roof at Museumpark has an impressive size of 3,181 m2 and has 661 solar panels, which can supply no fewer than 59 households in the city with energy. A roof garden with 149 solar panels has also been created.
