The Hoogheemraadschap (water board) is essential in a country that is largely below sea level. They ensure the maintenance of dikes, locks and pumping stations and ensure that water levels remain at a safe level so that we keep our feet dry. They also ensure that our drinking water comes clean from the tap.

The Hoogheemraadschap Schieland en Krimpenerwaard is responsible for the water management in our region.
