High-rise living is not unique in Rotterdam, but the Parkflat on the corner of Westzeedijk and Kievitslaan certainly is. This unassuming building, designed by Ernest Groosman and completed in 1958, was once a symbol of luxury with modern amenities such as central heating, a Bruynzeel kitchen, and bathtubs. The condominiums were particularly popular among affluent and sometimes famous residents of Rotterdam, such as architect Jaap Bakema and museum director Wim Crouwel.
The building is now recognized as a municipal monument and continues to be appreciated by its current residents, especially because of the rooftop terrace offering breathtaking views of the city, the park, and the harbor.
