Cinema and rooftops are a match made in heaven: film history is filled with scenes where the city and its rooftops literally elevate the tension to a new level. And where better to experience these films than on a rooftop? With a nighttime view of the Erasmus Bridge and Rijnhaven, enjoy an outdoor film on Saturday, 25 May from the stunning rooftop of Las Palmas. For this rooftop film night, we are collaborating with KINO: the Rotterdam cinema known for contemporary arthouse and classics, with context programming like the entire oeuvre of your favourite filmmaker. Not to mention the drinks, food and parties in their venue on the Gouvernestraat.

OVER DE FILMKEUZE

The Crow (1994)
Alex Proyas

About the film selection:

Long before the comic book movies ruled supreme in Tinseltown, The Crow was released in 1994. A rain-soaked gothic thriller that plays out in a perpetually night cloaked metropolis. Brandon Lee (son of the legendary Bruce) plays the titular young man that falls victim to a home invasion with his girlfriend, only to return as an angel of vengeance. Brandon himself did not live to see the finished film, as he was fatally wounded by a bullet that should have never been in that revolver used on set. It was the tragic ending of a great talent that is reminiscent of Heath Ledger’s fate, who played a similar dark persona lifted from the pages of a graphic novel. KINO and the Rooftop Days are proud to present this 30th anniversary screening of the film, only months before the remake will hit screens worldwide.

OVER DE LOCATIE

You are welcome from 21:00 to enjoy the view, with the film starting as soon as it is dark enough to project. The screening will take place under the rooftop structure, ensuring we stay dry even in the rain. Please note: always bring warm clothing and/or a blanket, even in good weather, as it can get quite chilly in the evening. Drinks for the film can be purchased on-site, but you should bring your own favourite movie night snacks.
