FAQ Rotterdamse Dakendagen 2023

Most frequently asked

When are the Rotterdamse Dakendagen 2023?

From Thursday 1 to Sunday 4 June. Most rooftops are open on Saturday and Sunday.

How much does a visit to Rotterdamse Dakendagen cost?

That depends on which part of the programme you intend to join. Some parts of the programme are free and others require a ticket. The price is always stated on the page of the various parts of the programme, where you can also buy tickets.

Can I go up to the rooftops without a ticket?

Yes, that’s possible. During the entire weekend, you’ll be able to visit our Central Rooftop on top of the Rotterdam Building. You can come here for your first view of the city, information about the festival and a cup of coffee or tea. In addition, the performance ‘Hellend Vlak’ and the ‘Kofferbakmarkt’ are also free to visit (as long as capacity allows).

How long does it take to visit rooftops?

This is indicated on the specific programme pages, but usually between 1.5 and 2 hours. Specials have all kinds of different times.

How long is my ticket valid?

Your ticket is valid until the start of the programme. If you are too late, please check on location or via the chat function on this website whether there is still room. For some parts of the programme, the start time is stricter than for others.

Will the Rotterdam Rooftop Walk return this year?

The Rotterdam Rooftop Walk was a one-time project in 2022. This year we are organizing Bovenop Zuid, another special project where you can also go on the roof all of June!

restricties

Is the Rotterdamse Dakendagen wheelchair friendly?

Unfortunately, most rooftops are not wheelchair-friendly because of stairs and inaccessible passages to or on the rooftops. However, the rooftop visit From Blaak to Binnenrotte is accessible with a wheelchair. Just like the Specials Aqueerius, Uncanny Valley (Liedhuis) and The Radicalisation of a Window Cleaner.

Do I need to be able to climb stairs to visit the roof?

Sometimes you have to climb stairs, sometimes there is an elevator. But even roofs with an elevator usually still require you to climb a small staircase to get onto the roof. Only with a wheelchair-friendly program can you be sure that you won’t have to climb stairs. You can find this program under “selections” in the program overview.

Is there a minimum age to be allowed on the roof?

Because of safety and our license to allow people on the roof, we often apply a minimum age. This will always be stated on the page of the particular roof and on the programme page.

Why am I not allowed to wear heels on some roofs?

Heels (specifically pointed heels) can damage the roof surface on some roofs.

Where do I have to show my tickets?

You will have to show your ticket before going up to any rooftop. The location(s) can be found on the ticket. Make sure you arrive on time.

Are there tickets for sale at the door?

The location of your programme event is indicated on your ticket. We recommend you come to the festival by public transport or bicycle. For some of the rooftop visits, you will need your own transport (bicycle or public transport). This is always stated on the programme page.

Can I take photos at the festival?

Yes, no problem! However, always be aware of your surroundings and be considerate of others. You may not take tripods or other large objects onto the rooftops without explicit permission from the organisers.

Are you still looking for volunteers?

Yes! We are still looking for volunteers for the Rotterdamse Dakendagen and Bovenop Zuid. You can register via this link.

Can I bring my children to the Rotterdamse Dakendagen?

Absolutely! Judge for yourself whether they will find it scary to be on a high rooftop. However, do note that many rooftops are subject to an age restriction. These are only accessible from 12, 15 or 18 years old. That has to do with safety and our licence. This will always be stated on the programme page.
