FAQ Rotterdam Rooftop Days 2024

festival Programme

When will the Rotterdam Rooftop Days take place in 2024?

From Friday 24 to Sunday 26 May.
Over de Bogen’, our project on the Hofbogen with Festival O. will take place from 17 to 26 May.

How does a visit to the Rotterdam Rooftop Days work?

Visiting the Rotterdam Rooftop Days can be done in various ways. With a Rooftop Pass (€9.50 for adults), you can visit our selection of Open Rooftops on Saturday, 25 May or Sunday, 26 May, between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm. You can set your own schedule, and on each rooftop, besides the view, you’ll find a continuous festival programme. You’ll be occupied for the entire day.

You can also book a Guided Tour (€12.50 per person), where you’ll visit a set of exclusive rooftops with an interesting story for 2 hours. These are different rooftops from the Open Rooftops. Special events on rooftops, such as performances and film screenings, take place throughout the weekend and are called Specials. The admission prices for specials vary per event. Sometimes these events take place on rooftops that are not accessible as Open Rooftops or on a Tour. The Tour and Specials programme will be announced on 23 April.

How much does a visit to the Rotterdam Rooftop Days cost?

That depends on the programme. You can purchase a Rooftop Pass for €9.50. With this ticket, you can visit all Open Rooftops on Saturday, 25 May or Sunday, 26 May. Tours cost €12.50 per person. Note: if you have a Rooftop Pass, you can purchase your Tour ticket with a €3 discount. When you do, you must be able to show your Rooftop Pass (or a valid ticket for a Rooftop Pass) on location (one for every discounted ticket).

Regarding the Specials (such as performances and film screenings), it’s best to consult the website, as prices vary. Some programme parts are free, while others require a ticket purchase. The price is always stated on the programme part page, where you can also buy tickets. The Tour and Specials programme will be announced on 23 April.

Are there Open Rooftops again this year?

Yes! The Rooftop Pass is a day ticket that allows you to visit all Open Rooftops on Saturday, 25 May or Sunday, 26 May, between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm. On the Open Rooftops, besides amazing views, you’ll find a continuous festival programme. You create your own schedule and move independently from rooftop to rooftop.

What do I get when I buy a Rooftop Pass?

– Access to all Open Rooftops on Saturday 25 or Sunday 26 May between 11:00 and 17:00
– A physical access pass and information about the rooftop (you collect these by scanning your e-ticket at the beginning of your visit)
– €3 discount on your ticket for a Tour on the same or another festival day

I want to visit a specific rooftop, how do I find out if it’s in the programme?

On the page with all the rooftops, we will gradually publish more participating rooftops. On 23 April 2024, you can find all participating rooftops on the website. If the rooftop belongs to the Open Rooftops, then you buy a Rooftop Pass for 25 or 26 May and you can visit not only this rooftop but all Open Rooftops between 11:00 and 17:00.

If the rooftop is part of a Tour, you can only visit it with a ticket from the respective tour (with a guide). The same applies to a rooftop where a Special takes place (such as a performance or film screening). Some rooftops can be visited in different program parts. You can always find the program parts on the rooftop’s page. The Tours and Specials will be published on 23 April.

Can I visit a rooftop without a ticket?

Yes! On 23 April we will publish all free programming. You can also visit our central rooftop of Las Palmas throughout the weekend from 11:00 to 17:00. Here you can find your first view, information about the festival, and a cup of coffee or tea.

How long will my visit last?

With a Rooftop Pass, you can visit the Open Rooftops between 11:00 and 17:00 on 25 or 26 May. You create your own schedule and visit them at your own pace. A Guided Tour usually lasts about 2 hours, and Specials have various start and end times.

Can I find a map with all the locations somewhere?

Yes! You can find an overview of all rooftops here. In that overview, you can also see what happens per rooftop and how to visit the rooftop. The full selection of rooftops will be published on 23 April.

Where can I find the schedule with all the Tours and Specials?

From 23 April, you will find all Tours and Specials on the program page. You can also buy tickets from 23 April at 14:00. An exception is Over De Bogen, for which you can buy tickets from 4 April at o-festival.nl.

How much do tickets for the Rotterdam Rooftop Days cost?

Ticket prices vary per program component. A Rooftop Pass costs €9.50 (children receive a discount). With this, you have access to all Open Rooftops of the festival on 25 or 26 May from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. For Specials (such as theatre performances or concerts) and Tours (visiting rooftops with a guide), you need to buy separate tickets. The price is always stated on the page of the various programme components, where you can also buy tickets if necessary. There is also free programming during the Rotterdam Rooftop Days, which we will announce more about on 23 April.

Where do I need to show my tickets/admission ticket?

You must exchange your e-ticket for a Rooftop Pass (to visit Open Rooftops on 25 or 26 May) at one of our ticket sales points at the beginning or prior to your visit. From 23 April, you can find out which points these are and when they are open on the ticket sales page. Ticket holders will also receive information via email. You can only visit other rooftops once you have exchanged this e-ticket.

Tickets for Tours and Specials will be checked at the (starting) location.

Is there a discount with Rotterdampas or another discount card?

We do not offer discounts with Rotterdampas or any other discount card. However, we do offer free programming, which you can find more information about on 23 April.

Do children receive a discount?

To visit the Open Rooftops, you need a Rooftop Pass. Because not all rooftops are accessible for all ages, we offer discounts for children between 5 and 12 years old, and children under 5 years old can visit the Open Rooftops for free with their guardians. The discounted rates can be found in the webshop. Please note: this does not apply to Tours and Specials.

Are tickets also available at the door?

Tickets for the Rotterdam Rooftop Days are only available online. On 25 and 26 May, we will open physical information points at some rooftops where you can buy tickets at the counter. You can find more information on the ticket sales page on 23 April.

If I have a ticket for a rooftop visit or special, do I get access to the ‘central rooftops’ of Las Palmas and Luchtpark Hofbogen?

You can visit our central rooftop at Las Palmas throughout the entire weekend. Here, you can find information about the festival, enjoy your first view, and have a cup of coffee or tea. You do not need a ticket for this.
Luchtpark Hofbogen can be visited on 25 and 26 May from 11:00 am with any ticket for the Rotterdam Rooftop Days. This can be a Rooftop Pass, but also a ticket for a Tour or a Special.

I have purchased a Rooftop Pass or tickets for a Tour or Special, but I have an extra ticket. What to do?

Unfortunately, we cannot take back your ticket. We advise you to invite someone else to join you or to give your ticket to someone who will be happy to use it. Alternatively, offer your ticket securely via Ticketswap.

How long is my ticket valid for?

Your Rooftop Pass is valid for one day (25 or 26 May) from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. If you want to visit the Open Rooftops on both Saturday and Sunday, you will need a Rooftop Pass for both days. Your ticket for a Tour or Special (such as a theatre performance or film screening) is valid until the start of the programme component. We advise you to always be at the location 15 minutes before the start. If you are late, you can inquire on-site whether you can still enter. With some programme components we have to be more strict about this than others. If you are late, unfortunately, we cannot guarantee entry, and we do not offer refunds.

Can I safely purchase a ticket via Ticketswap/Facebook/Marktplaats?

We advise you to use Ticketswap for this purpose.

Accessibility

Do you need to be of a certain age to visit the Rotterdam Rooftop Days?

We welcome visitors of all ages. However, for safety reasons, some rooftops have age restrictions. Visitors below a certain age unfortunately cannot visit these rooftops (12, 15 or 18 years). Up until the age of 16 people need to be under the guidance of an adult.

These restrictions are always mentioned on the programme page for Tours and Specials. For the Open Rooftops, you can find these age restrictions on the rooftop’s page itself. Please check the restrictions before your visit. Other Open Rooftops specifically offer programs designed for children, making the Rotterdam Rooftop Days enjoyable for all ages. Children under 5 years old do not need a Rooftop Pass to visit the Open Rooftops, and we offer a discounted rate for children between 5 and 12 years old.

I have mobility issues, can I visit the Rotterdam Rooftop Days?

Climbing one or more sets of stairs is required for many rooftops. The extent varies per rooftop. If you can climb stairs and step over high thresholds to some extent, you can visit most rooftops. There are also rooftops with many stairs for which you need to be agile and fit, and this will be mentioned on the rooftop’s page. From 23 April, we will offer a special ticket for visitors who want or can only visit wheelchair-accessible rooftops. Would you like to be on the list to be notified when these tickets are sold? Then send an email to info@rotterdamsedakendagen.nl.

Is it fun to visit the Rotterdam Rooftop Days if I don’t speak Dutch?

For visitors who do not speak Dutch, we recommend visiting Open Rooftops (by purchasing a Rooftop Pass) and Specials that are spoken in English or are not language-dependent. Tours are Dutch spoken. From 23 April (when ticket sales for Tours and Specials start), you can find an overview of all English and non-language-dependent programs on this website.

Can I visit the Rotterdam Rooftop Days if I am hard of hearing or deaf?

We advise visitors with hearing impairments to visit the Open Rooftops by purchasing a Rooftop Pass; during this festival visit, most information is presented visually. In an emergency situation, crew will use audio instructions, so please be aware of this when planning your visit.

Tours are guided by guides who are not proficient in sign language (Dutch or otherwise). If you would like to bring your own interpreter, we are happy to offer a free ticket for the interpreter (please contact us via info@rotterdamsedakendagen.nl). The experience at Specials (such as performances) depends on sound perception to varying degrees. If in doubt, we are happy to advise; also contact us via email for this.

Can I visit the Rotterdam Rooftop Days if I am visually impaired or blind?

Due to the various safety measures on the rooftop and the information we share visually through signage, we recommend that visitors with visual impairments only visit the Rotterdam Rooftop Days accompanied by someone without a visual impairment.

Can a service or guide dog go on the rooftop?

For safety reasons, pets are not allowed on the rooftop, but we are happy to make an exception for certified service and guide dogs. We appreciate it if the dog is clearly recognisable as a service or guide dog, and if visitors with a service or guide dog email us in advance at info@rotterdamsedakendagen.nl. We will then inform our audience guides on location that they can expect a visitor with a dog.
