How do I get to Bovenop Zuid (‘On Top of South Rotterdam’)?

You will find the entrance to Bovenop Zuid at the entrance of Zuidplein metro station. Bovenop Zuid is best reached by public transport, on foot or by bicycle. Parking is available in the Zuidplein Shopping Centre car park.

When does Bovenop Zuid take place?

From 1 to 30 June 2023. Bovenop Zuid is open every day from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

How long does a visit to Bovenop Zuid last?

A visit takes 45 to 60 minutes. During your visit, you will keep moving and will automatically get to the end.

How long is the route across the rooftop?

Bovenop Zuid’s route is 850 metres.

Are there food or drinks available at Bovenop Zuid?

No food or drinks are available on the rooftop of Zuidplein Shopping Centre, which you will walk across at Bovenop Zuid. However, there are plenty of food and drinks at the shopping centre itself, which is where the route ends and begins.

Is there a toilet at Bovenop Zuid?

There is no toilet on the rooftop, but at Zuidplein Shopping Centre there is a toilet.

Is there a map of Bovenop Zuid?

There is no way to get lost once you’re on the rooftop, so a map is not really necessary. The visualisation on the homepage shows how the route runs across the rooftop. The entrance, a large yellow staircase, can be found at Zuidplein metro station, close to the elevated bus lane above Gooilandsingel. There will soon be plenty of signs at the metro station to make sure you can find the entrance. After your visit, you’ll come back down the rooftop of Zuidplein Shopping Centre between Zara and Wibra.

How much does a ticket for Bovenop Zuid cost?

A ticket for an adult (16 years and above) costs € 3.50, which includes a € 0.50 transaction fee. A ticket for an adult together with a child (up to 15 years old) costs € 5.50. Please note that children up to 15 years old are only allowed to enter the rooftop when accompanied by an adult (1 child per supervisor).

How do I buy tickets?

You can only buy tickets online via this website. There are no other ticket providers. You can pay via iDeal or credit card.

What kind of tickets do you sell?

We have two rates:
– Regular tickets for everyone aged 16 and older for € 3.50
– Tickets for an adult + 1 child aged 15 or younger (you buy one ticket, but automatically receive two tickets via email) for € 5.50

There are no separate children’s tickets, as each child must be accompanied by an adult.

How long is my ticket valid for a visit to Bovenop Zuid?

Your ticket is valid for a specific time slot within which you can enter Bovenop Zuid. You will choose this time slot when you buy your ticket. Once this time slot is over, the ticket is no longer valid. 

How does a ticket with a time slot work?

Your ticket shows a time slot of 15 minutes. Within these 15 minutes, you will have to report to the entrance of Bovenop Zuid. We cannot guarantee access outside these 15 minutes.

Where do I have to show my tickets?

You will show your tickets at the entrance of Bovenop Zuid. You may show them on your phone or printed out.

Can I exchange my tickets for another time slot?

Unfortunately, we cannot exchange your tickets for another time slot.

I have bought tickets for Bovenop Zuid, but I have a spare ticket. What do I do now?

Unfortunately, you cannot return tickets. Our advice: invite someone else or give your ticket to someone who wants to use it.

Can I pay by credit card?

You can pay with all major credit cards.

Where do I find my tickets after I have bought them?

You will receive a confirmation email with your tickets and everything you need to know for your visit. Didn’t get an email? Check your spam folder and add us as a safe email address. Checked your spam and still no tickets? Then click here to have them sent to you again.

I logged in with Facebook when I bought my tickets and haven’t received any tickets yet. What do I do now?

Then check that you are still using the email address associated with your account. Update the email address when necessary. Then click here to have them sent to you again.

Children and Bovenop Zuid

Is Bovenop Zuid fun for children?

That depends entirely on the child you want to bring. There is plenty to see on the rooftops, but there are no interactive installations or activities especially for children. We leave this to the parents/carers and supervisors to decide. 

Do I need to buy a ticket for my child as well?

Yes, you can buy a ticket for the rate ‘1 Adult + 1 Child’ for € 5.50. You will receive two tickets in your inbox, one for the adult and one for the child. Let the ticket inspector at the door scan both tickets.

Are all children allowed?

In principle, all children are allowed to visit, as long as they are accompanied by at least one adult. Please note that one adult supervisor per child (up to 15 years) must accompany them on the rooftop. You do not need to buy a ticket for a baby in a baby sling.

Can I take a pram or pushchair to Bovenop Zuid?

Unfortunately, no. There are no large objects allowed on the rooftop. This would not be practical, as you have to climb stairs. You may carry a baby in a baby sling or something similar, but this is your own responsibility and at your own risk. No ticket is required for babies in a baby sling.

Can I take more than one child with me?

Each child must have at least one adult accompanying them. If you want to come with six children, you will need to bring six adults. In this example, you will have to buy six tickets with the ‘1 Adult + 1 Child’ rate and you will automatically receive 12 tickets in your inbox.

How do I get to Bovenop Zuid?

You will find the entrance to Bovenop Zuid at Zuidplein metro station. Bovenop Zuid is best reached by public transport, on foot or by bicycle.

What is the best place to park my car?

You can park in one of the car parks underneath Zuidplein Shopping Centre. More information can be found here.

Is there a bicycle parking facility near Bovenop Zuid?

There is no dedicated bicycle parking facility for Bovenop Zuid. Always park your bicycle in the designated public areas.

Is Bovenop Zuid accessible by public transport?

Yes, it is. The entrance to Bovenop Zuid is right next to Zuidplein metro station and Zuidplein bus station.

Accessibility

Is Bovenop Zuid wheelchair-friendly?

Unfortunately, the rooftop of Zuidplein Shopping Centre is not accessible by wheelchair due to the many height differences and stairs.

How far do I need to be able to walk to visit Bovenop Zuid?

The Bovenop Zuid route is 850 metres long and has several stairs to climb up and down.

Can I visit Bovenop Zuid without climbing stairs?

Unfortunately, this is not possible. Visitors must be able to climb stairs (up and down) to visit the rooftop. To get to the rooftop, you have to walk up about two floors and at the end of the route you will have to walk down three floors.

Can I visit Bovenop Zuid as a hearing-impaired or deaf person?

Our house rules state that in the event of an emergency we will use verbal instructions in Dutch and English. It is necessary for visitors to be able to understand them or to visit Bovenop Zuid together with someone who can. There is no spoken information at Bovenop Zuid, so a hearing impairment will not diminish the experience itself.

Can I visit Bovenop Zuid as a visually-impaired or blind person?

We recommend that all visually-impaired or blind people be accompanied by someone with full vision during their visit. All rooftops have railings, but much of the (safety) information is communicated through signs. It might also be good to know that the route mainly offers a visual experience.

Can I visit Bovenop Zuid with someone with a mental disability?

Our house rules state that in the event of an emergency we will use verbal instructions in Dutch and English. It is necessary for visitors to be able to understand them or to visit Bovenop Zuid together with someone who can.

Can I visit Bovenop Zuid if I am not a trained walker?

The route across the rooftop is 850 metres long. To get to the rooftop, you have to take the stairs up two floors and to get back down about three floors. There is no lift. As long as you are confident that you can do this, you don’t need any special skills or training. On the rooftop, there are some more small stairs to climb.

Can I take photos during my visit to Bovenop Zuid?

Taking photos is allowed, but do not take too much time for a (selfie) photo shoot as this will jeopardise the flow of visitors and therefore everyone’s safety. If you still do so, you will be called to account by security.

Can I bring my pet to Bovenop Zuid?

No, pets are not allowed. However, official guide dogs are allowed on the rooftop.

Can I drink alcohol while visiting Bovenop Zuid?

No, you are not allowed to drink alcohol or be under the influence of alcohol during your visit. You will find an overview of all house rules here.

Can I smoke during my visit to Bovenop Zuid?

No, you are not allowed to smoke during your visit, not even electronic cigarettes (keep in mind that you’ll be back down within an hour). 

Fear of heights

Can I visit Bovenop Zuid if I am afraid of heights?

That depends on how bad your fear is. Are you not sure? Then come to Zuidplein Shopping Centre and have a look at how tall the building is. 

Groups

Can I visit Bovenop Zuid with a group?

You can – just order regular tickets in the web shop for this. Please note that there is no guide present and everyone in the group must abide by the house rules.
